May 8, 2024 is the 31st "World Underground Poverty Day". The theme of this year's activity is "pay attention to underground poverty, and pay equal attention to screening, diagnosis and treatment". In order to advocate scientific prevention and control of thalassemia, guide newly married and pregnant couples to pay attention to screening, prenatal diagnosis and genetic counseling of thalassemia, promote early diagnosis and treatment of thalassemia patients and standardize health management. On the same day, Guiyang Maternal and Child Health Hospital held the "World Underground Poverty Day" hematopoietic stem cell transplantation patient meeting and free clinic activity.

Huang Qiuchen, secretary of the Party Committee of the hospital, attended the activity and delivered a speech, Shao Xiaoshan, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and president of the hospital, attended the activity, and experts, medical staff, and representatives of thalassemia children who have successfully performed hematopoietic stem cell transplantation from departments related to diagnosis and treatment of thalassemia screening, such as Children's Hematology Department, Child Health Department, Maternity Health Department, Eugenics and Genetics Department, Reproductive Medicine Center, Blood Transfusion Department, Children's Endocrine Genetics and Metabolism Department Family representatives, volunteers and some patients with thalassemia participated in the activity.

In his speech, Secretary Huang Qiuchen pointed out that thalassemia has brought huge physical and mental burden to patients and families. We are well aware of the importance and urgency of prevention and treatment of thalassemia. Over the years, Guiyang Maternal and Child Health Care Center has carried out a lot of work in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of thalassemia, taking the lead in the province and providing high-quality medical services for sick children and their families.

Representatives of the families of children with successful transplants made exchange speeches and shared their feelings and gratitude during the medical treatment. They all said that they had received a good reimbursement policy for serious diseases in Guizhou Province during the medical treatment. Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation could be reimbursed at 250000 yuan, and only 20% of the cost was borne by themselves, greatly reducing the financial burden of the family. The successfully transplanted children and the medical staff of Guiyang Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital also brought us wonderful performances and interactive games.
