Ministry of Defense: China will not assume the role of Philippines in the South China Sea issue

On the afternoon of March 28, the Ministry of National Defense held a regular press conference. Major Wu Qian, Director of the Information Bureau of the Ministry of National Defense and spokesman of the Ministry of National Defense, answered questions from reporters.

reporter: It is reported that not long ago, US Secretary of State Lincoln accused China of its actions in the South China Sea, reiterating the US defense commitment to the Philippines. At the same time, the US accused China of taking actions against the Philippines in the South China Sea on the 23rd. In addition, the Philippine Defense Minister ordered the Philippine Army to launch the "comprehensive archipelago defense plan" strategy, and Philippine officials accused China of repeatedly blocking its operations on Ren'ai Reef. What's the speaker's comment?

Wu Qian: On the South China Sea issue between China and the Philippines, we have repeatedly expressed our solemn position, That is to oppose external intervention, infringement and provocation, advocate proper settlement of differences, make all preparations for emergencies, and firmly defend their own territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests.

The US intervention is the biggest driver of the turbulence in the South China Sea. For some time, the United States has ignored the facts, provoked confrontation, endorsed the Philippine platform, threatened to pressure China with the so-called bilateral treaties, and sent warships to the South China Sea to provoke trouble, seriously undermining regional peace and stability. China's attitude towards this is clear, that is, the United States has no right to intervene, and the military cooperation between the United States and the Philippines must not damage China's territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests.

The Philippines' provocation is the direct cause of the recent warming of the South China Sea issue. Relying on the support of external forces, the Philippines, in violation of international law and the spirit of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea, frequently infringes and provokes at sea, creates incidents, spreads false information, and misleads the international community. It can be said that the Philippines is going farther and farther on the dangerous road. The Chinese side will not allow the Philippines to come, and has made a reasonable, forceful and methodical response to this. The Philippines should realize that it is not worth the loss to provoke trouble, and it is not reliable to rely on outsiders.

Let the wind and waves rise and sit on the fishing boat. China has sufficient strategic determination in solving the South China Sea issue. We have always been committed to properly managing maritime differences with relevant parties through dialogue and consultation, while firmly safeguarding our territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests. We have reason to believe that with the joint efforts of countries in the region, the situation in the South China Sea will eventually become calm, which is an unstoppable trend of the times.
