For the first time in the world! Chinese scientists lead the way and achieve breakthrough results

On March 28, the reporter learned from Nanjing University that the international team led by Professor Du Lingjie of the School of Physics of Nanjing University used polarized light scattering technology under extreme conditions to measure the collective excitation of fractional quantum Hall effect in GaAs quantum wells, It is the first time in the world to observe graviton excitation, that is, a novel quasi particle of graviton in condensed matter. Relevant research was published in the international academic journal Nature on March 28.

The research team independently designed and assembled an extremely low temperature strong magnetic field resonance inelastic polarized light scattering system. The system is like a special "telescope", which is two floors high. It can capture weak excitation phenomena up to 10G Hz at - 273.1 ℃, and judge its spin.

"With this sharp tool, we have successfully observed fractional quantum Hall effect gravitons in GaAs semiconductor quantum wells. The team measured the lowest energy long wave collective excitation through resonant inelastic light scattering, and observed that the excitation has the characteristics of spin 2 by changing the spin of incident and scattered light." Du Lingjie said that these results are from the spin The momentum and energy angles provide sufficient experimental evidence for graviton excitation. These discoveries are the first time that quasi particles with graviton characteristics have been found experimentally since the concept of graviton was proposed.
