China's efforts: actively respond to global climate change

Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, China has upgraded the construction of ecological civilization to the national strategic level, and resolutely promoted the green and low-carbon transformation under the guidance of Xi Jinping's ecological civilization thought. According to the government's plan, China has clearly proposed to strive to reach the peak of carbon dioxide emissions by 2030, with non fossil energy accounting for about 25% of primary energy consumption; It is also planned to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, when the forest stock will increase by more than 6 billion cubic meters compared with 2005, which demonstrates China's determination and strength to actively fulfill its emission reduction commitments in the process of global response to climate change.

Benchmarking countries, Guizhou takes the lead

As a national ecological civilization pilot zone, Guizhou Province follows the pace of the country and takes the lead in implementing innovative measures for carbon emission control in the country relying on its forest coverage of more than 63% and rich forest resources. Up to now, Guizhou has accumulatively completed afforestation of more than 50 million mu and forest area of 166 million mu, making great contributions to improving carbon sink capacity and coping with climate change.

Guizhou's innovative practice in the field of carbon emission governance is in the forefront of the country. In February 2022, Guizhou's first forestry carbon ticket numbered "0000001" will be issued in Qianxi City, transforming the rich forest carbon sink resources into tradable and tradable assets, injecting new vitality into the carbon emission trading market.

This landmark forestry carbon ticket quantifies the annual fixed carbon sink of hundreds of thousands of tons of forests in Guizhou, indicating a potential ecological value market of tens of billions of yuan. In this way, Guizhou has effectively promoted the development of the regional carbon emission trading market, and provided strong data support and technical demonstration for the province and even the whole country to explore the path of carbon peak.

In October of the same year, the first carbon ticket for bamboo forests in Guizhou Province - Chishui Danqing carbon ticket was also issued in Chishui City, Guizhou Province. It is reported that more than 2 tons of carbon can be fixed per mu, and 1.04 million tons of carbon can be fixed by 100000 mu of bamboo forest in Chishui, worth 50 million yuan, which has successfully turned the "carbon bill" into "money" and opened a new path from "Qingshan" to "Jinshan".

Up to now, Guizhou Province has developed 15 forestry carbon tickets, realizing a transaction amount of 12.01 million yuan.

Looking forward to the future, Guizhou has formulated a new round of green development goals. According to the latest government work report, the proportion of non fossil energy consumption in Guizhou will increase to 21.6% by 2025, which means that new and renewable energy such as hydropower, wind power, photovoltaic and biomass energy will occupy more than one fifth of the important position in the energy structure.

In terms of energy conservation and emission reduction, Guizhou has exceeded some national phased tasks. The latest data shows that the decline rate of energy consumption per unit of GDP in Guizhou has been in the forefront of the country for many consecutive years. The emissions of major pollutants such as sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides have continued to decline. The average number of good days of ambient air quality in central cities has reached 98.6%. The excellent rate of water quality in the exit sections of major rivers has remained 100%. Energy conservation and carbon reduction have achieved remarkable results.

From an innovative "carbon ticket" to the comprehensive promotion of multi-dimensional green practice, Guizhou interprets the concept of "green water and green mountains are golden mountains and silver mountains" with practical actions, and writes a vivid chapter of green development wisdom with data and practice.
