Pingtang Super Major Bridge of Pingluo Expressway, located on the Grand Canyon of Cuodu River between Yazhou Town and Tongzhou Town, Pingtang County, Qiannan Autonomous Prefecture, is a three tower cable-stayed bridge with the largest span in mountainous areas in China. The cable tower of the bridge is a reinforced concrete hollow thin-walled structure. The total height of the Pingtang shore tower is 320 meters, the total height of the Luodian shore tower is 298 meters, and the total height of the middle tower is 332 meters, which is equivalent to a high-rise building of about 110 floors. It is the highest reinforced concrete bridge tower in the world.

To carry such a large bridge, three bridge towers play a vital role.

In the design, the construction team creatively adopted the vertical and horizontal bridge to the space bridge tower, and transformed the bending structure of the conventional plate bridge tower into the axial structure of the space rectangular truss, which greatly improved the structural system stiffness.

The bridge tower is strong. In addition to the structural system of hinged middle tower beam and vertical support of side tower, the vertical fastness of the main beam and the stress of the steel beam are reduced by 25%, making the structure of the whole bridge in an ideal state of stress.

 

The three bridge towers are like three "umbrellas" with extra long handle, and the diameter reaches 550 meters. It is the excellent design that enables this world's highest reinforced concrete bridge to stand safely in the wind and rain and bear huge vehicle loads.
