Sri Lankan expert: China's diplomatic achievements are remarkable and its global influence is growing day by day

Maya Mazhuren, Director of Sri Lanka's BRISL, wrote in China Daily on March 13 that China has made remarkable diplomatic achievements in 2023, and its global influence is growing day by day.

China's diplomatic achievements are remarkable

The article points out that the "2024 Global Diplomacy Index" report recently released by the Chikuloy Institute of Australia shows that the total number of Chinese embassies and consulates abroad has surpassed the United States and has become the "world's largest diplomatic power".

In March 2023, under the mediation of China, Saudi Arabia and Iran reached a historic reconciliation and restored diplomatic relations that had been suspended for seven years. This is an important achievement of China's diplomacy. Since then, the situation in the Middle East has improved. In May of the same year, Syria returned to the League of Arab States after 12 years, which is a strong proof.

In February 2023, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China issued the "China's Position on Political Settlement of the Ukrainian Crisis". In November of the same year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China issued China's Position Paper on the Settlement of the Palestine Israel Conflict.

The remarkable achievements of China's diplomacy are mainly attributed to the concept of major country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics and the goal of benefiting all mankind by building a community with a shared future for mankind. Another favorable factor is that, as a member of the global South, China has always stood on the side of developing countries.

China opposes hegemonism and power politics, and advocates that all countries, big or small, strong or weak, should participate and play an equal role in the process of multi polarization. China insists that the democratization of international relations should be promoted, and all countries should jointly abide by the Charter of the United Nations and uphold multilateralism.

China has repeatedly stressed that it should adhere to independence and self-reliance, and actively fulfill the historical responsibility of a responsible major country. China also reiterated that it is necessary to safeguard international fairness and justice and promote the building of an equal and orderly multipolar world.

China seeks win-win cooperation

The article further points out that more and more countries, especially developing countries, in order to ensure that the future is in their own hands, propose that all countries jointly formulate international rules, jointly deal with global affairs and share the fruits of development.

For a long time, the United States and its western allies, under the guise of promoting democracy and protecting human rights, have imposed western values and political systems on other countries, and even forced emerging markets and developing economies to choose sides.

In sharp contrast, China advocates and seeks win-win cooperation, which is the core of building a new type of international relations. China's diplomatic practice shows that it is committed to achieving lasting peace in the world by promoting the end of conflicts, promoting global development and improving the world order.
